Jewelers' Circular

"The Present Trend in Decorative Designing" singles out Manz's display case at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Eighth Annual industrial Arts Exhibit. In her review, Isabelle M. Archer writes:

"A very different handling is shown in the jewels with gold mounts by Gustav Manz. Here the forms and decoration follow very distinctly the Oriental type. The seated Buddah(sic) makes the motif in the pendant of gold whoseoverlapping carved jade wings open to show this gold carving beneath. There is also a lattice and jade pendant with an added lattice drop and the illustration shows also a silver pendant, hand-carved and mounted again in lattice and jade; pearls and pink beryls are added to the jade color in other of these gold jewels, and the whole group shows a most remarkable color scheme."
